Barsmith Bloody Mary Mix Ranked #1 by Chowhound in National Taste Test

Barsmith Nashville Hot Also Lands Top Spicy Spot at #5 Overall

Nashville, TN – Barsmith has officially earned another top spot. In a newly released ranking by Chowhound, the influential online food and beverage community, Barsmith Bloody Mary Mix was named #1 out of 14 Bloody Mary Mixes Ranked Worst to Best, outperforming nationally recognized brands including Zing Zang, V8, Major Peters, Old Bay, and more.

In the comprehensive blind tasting conducted by food writer Sarah Dealy, Barsmith’s flagship Bloody Mary Mix stood out for its balance, texture, and authentic flavor profile.

“Barsmith's Distinguished Blend Bloody Mary mix hit the nail on the head,” wrote Dealy. “It has a lovely consistency that's just a bit thicker than Zing Zang without being soupy. The flavor comes through first with a bright acid that snaps you out of your stupor, followed by a kick that's just faint enough to be true to a bloody mary without scaring off the more sensitive palates, and finishes smoothly with tomato and celery. It's robust, well-rounded, and straightforward.”

Dealy also praised the mix’s clean ingredient panel and accessibility, noting its $7.99 price point for a 32-ounce bottle and the fact that it is made without GMO ingredients, artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives.

The accolades didn’t stop there. Barsmith Nashville Hot Bloody Mary Mix ranked #5 overall and was named the top spicy Bloody Mary mix in the lineup.

“Of all the brands that put out a spicy version of their originals, Barsmith really took the cake,” Dealy wrote. “The flavors are balanced and play off of each other, without the spice drowning out everything else.”

She described the Nashville Hot blend as beginning with sweet tomato notes that build into a slow cayenne-forward burn, layered with jalapeño and horseradish heat. Bright acidity from lemon, lime, and white vinegar, along with a hint of tropical tamarind, rounds out what she called an “incredibly well-rounded” and “robust spice profile.”

To determine the rankings, Chowhound tasted each mix both with and without Tito’s Vodka, following package instructions when provided. Judges evaluated sweetness, acidity, spice balance, texture, and overall adherence to the classic Bloody Mary experience.

Chowhound is one of the pioneering online food and beverage communities founded in 1997 and reaching 3-3.5 million visitors monthly. “This recognition from Chowhound reinforces what our customers already know,” said Carly Houts, Barsmith’s marketing director. “At Barsmith, we’re committed to crafting premium, bartender-quality mixes that deliver balance, flavor integrity, and approachability—whether you're at brunch with friends or mixing one at home in your pajamas.”
